Birds are majestic animals that are great companions. They need certain living conditions, diets, and treatments to maintain good health. Here at Glenview Animal Hospital, we are experienced in diagnosing illnesses and providing treatment for birds.

Do birds need an annual veterinary exam?

Yes, birds need at least one veterinary exam each year. At our hospital, a certified avian veterinarian can spot signs of illness you may think are normal. Our team will run diagnostics during the checkup, provide treatment for any illness, make dietary and grooming recommendations, and offer trimming services.

What are the signs of illness in my pet bird?

Birds are very sensitive creatures and aren’t immune to serious health problems. The signs that your bird is sick may be missed because they are so subtle. We recommend that you pay close attention to your pet’s daily activities and behaviours. Birds often suffer from respiratory problems, muscular disorders, and intestinal problems. Here are some signs of illness to look for:

  • Reduced appetite
  • Changes in the colour of their droppings
  • Open-mouthed breathing
  • Red or inflamed eyes
  • Ruffled feathers and weight loss
  • Changes in vocalization

Early diagnosis can save your bird’s life, please schedule an appointment at 250-478-4075.
